Baby Leo sat quietly in the corner of the room, his tiny face covered with tears. His sad expression showed how upset and confused he felt. Only a few moments earlier, he had been happily playing with his favorite toy, but things changed when his mom decided it was time for him to learn an important lesson.
Leo had become used to getting help whenever he wanted something. If a toy rolled away, his mom picked it up. If he wanted a snack, she brought it immediately. While she loved him very much, she worried that he was becoming too dependent on her.
That afternoon, when Leo dropped his toy, his mom gently encouraged him to crawl over and get it himself. Leo was surprised. He stretched out his arms and cried loudly, hoping she would bring it back as usual.
“Come on, Leo,” Mom said kindly. “You can do it.”
But Leo did not understand. His little face became sadder, and tears rolled down his cheeks. He cried, “Mama!” as loudly as he could. To him, it seemed as though his mom was being unfair.
His mom stayed nearby, watching carefully to make sure he was safe. She knew that learning new skills could be frustrating, but she also knew that Leo was capable of more than he realized.
After several minutes, Leo slowly crawled forward. It was difficult, and he stopped many times. Finally, he reached his toy and grabbed it.
At once, his mom smiled and clapped her hands. “Great job, Leo!”
Leo looked at the toy in his hands and then at his mom. Although he had cried and struggled, he had succeeded on his own. His tears faded, and a small proud smile appeared on his face as he discovered that he was stronger than he thought.
